News/Announcements

For the week of Dec. 9, 2018

COMBINED WORSHIP SERVICE ON DECEMBER 23. On Sunday morning December 23, we will have one combined worship service at 10:00 am with music led by Royal Praise.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!  To everyone who helped out with the card making, the memorial service and the Taproot play last weekend!  What a blessing to have everyone pitch in and help.  Many hands make light work.

POINSETTIAS This year we will be doing Poinsettias a little differently. Cugini Florist will be providing 25 Poinsettias, at a cost of $20 each, and we are asking you to donate the cost instead of bringing one in. You can give your donation to Hillari in the office or in the offering plate with a note that it is for poinsettias. The poinsettias will be delivered on December 19, so please have your donations in before then. Please write your name on the list in the Narthex and be sure to let us know if this gift in “In memory of…” or “In thanks for…” and we will publish that list as always in the bulletin. You are, of course, welcome to take the Poinsettias home after Christmas

SUNDAY DECEMBER 30 LAY-LED SERVICES: On Sunday Dec. 30 Pastor Birner will be out of town.  We will have lay-led services featuring various members of our congregation.  The Elders will lead the service.  The message will focus on favorite Christmas hymns, carols, and songs.  If you would like to say a few words about your favorite Christmas hymn, carol, or song and then have the congregation sing it, please contact Pastor Birner, Pat Gorman, or Dennis Dyson.

Advent Soup Suppers on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm December 12 & 19. The menu will be a light dinner featuring home cooked soup or chowder, salad and maybe a dessert provided by you to share with another family. It will be a time to fellowship with others. Beverage and rolls will be provided by the Fellowship MAT. We'll see you there and be surprised at what you've been cooking up. Arrive by 5:50. Ralph and Joan Linderman

CHRISTMAS WISH TREE The women of King of Kings will have a Christmas Wish tree displayed in the church entry starting November 18.  Would you like to help the residents of the Benson Heights Rehab Center with a Christmas gift this season?  Choose a stocking on the tree.  All instructions are posted on the display, but if you have any questions, please contact Aletha Voges.

ADVENT SOUP SUPPERS START WEDNESDAY DEC. 5 This year we will have 3 Advent Suppers starting Wednesday Dec. 5 at 6:00pm. Come and fellowship prior to our Advent service in the parish hall. If you like to help call Ralph or Joan Linderman.

AROMA NEUTRAL/SCENT FREE: This is one of the comments from one of our members regarding fragrances and scents, “Pastor, when I smell certain things, my nasal and bronchial passages constrict and I have to leave. If it gets bad, I have to use an emergency inhaler or maybe even go to the emergency room.” Thank you for being considerate of the needs of others and working towards a more aroma neutral/scent free worship environment.

LUKE 3:4“As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’” God makes long-range plans: Isaiah lived more than 700 years before St. John the Baptist preached by the Jordan River. Obviously, God sees farther into the future than we do. That’s yet another reason to trust Him when it comes to how He tells us to live our lives. He knows what’s coming, and we don’t.
